Shortly before 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, police received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcar, which had struck a wall on Warwick Park Road, Warwick.

Officers attended and found the female driver still seated behind the steering wheel. She was transported to the Hamilton Police Station, where demands for a breath sample were made however she refused to provide samples of breath for analysis and was arrested for having care and control of a vehicle whilst impaired.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, an off duty police officer was on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton and observed a male repeatedly stumble as he made his way to a nearby motorcycle.

The officer approached the man on suspicion that he was under the influence of alcohol and identified herself as a police officer, and tried to discourage the man from driving in his condition.

The male reportedly became belligerent and attempted to leave the scene on his motorcycle. The officer called for assistance and the suspect was subsequently arrested for having care and control of a vehicle whilst impaired.

He was conveyed to the Hamilton Police Station, where an analysis of breath samples he provided, measured 279 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, more than three times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Both individuals are expected to appear before the courts in due course.

Martin Weekes, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, reminded the public, “The Bermuda Police Service remains resolute in its efforts to combat drink driving. Worryingly, too many individuals continue to act in a selfish manner risking their own lives, as well as the lives of others by operating vehicles while impaired whether by alcohol or some other substance.

“They show no regard for the safety and wellbeing of other motorists, pedestrians and other road users. One only needs look at the daily newspaper reports of individuals appearing before the courts on DUI charges and being banned from the roads.”

“These offences do not happen in isolation. Others were with the subjects and could have prevented them from driving. We cannot police our way out of this, this needs to be a community effort. Don’t wait until the situation hits home, before you commit to doing the right thing.”
