Police Encourage Motorcycle Owners & Buyers to be Vigilant

Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer in Charge of the Roads Policing Unit - The Bermuda Police Service continues to regularly record incidents where motorcycles are reported to have been ‘taken without the owner’s consent’ – referred to as TWOC.

To date there have been 728 such reports compared to 599 at the same time last year.

Cash Stolen From Laundrette in Sandys Parish

At 2:55pm today, police attended an incident that took place at Launderette in the plaza adjacent to The Market Place in Sandys parish. It appears that two individuals entered the premises, made demands of money and escaped with an unknown quantity of cash.

Police have now commenced an investigation into the incident and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen individuals in the area, particularly The Market Place, Dollar Depot area acting suspiciously, to contact police on 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.

Commissioner’s Vision Awards Ceremony This Wednesday

The Bermuda Police Service will be holding the Commissioner’s Vision Awards ceremony at 6pm Wednesday, November 19th in the Berkeley Institute cafetorium.

This inaugural ceremony, sponsored by Bermuda Cablevision, was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 11th during the Police Tattoo. However, an alternate date was identified after the Tattoo was unavoidably cancelled due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Fay.

Traffic Delays: Sound View Road, Sandys Parish Area [Updated]

There are currently traffic delays in the Sound View Road, Sandys parish area due to a reported three vehicle collision that occurred around 9:15am. Initial information suggests that a water truck, police car and bus were involved.

At this time, there are no reported injuries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to take alternate routes if possible. More details will be provided as they become available.

Car Collides With Utility Pole in Southampton

Around 4pm on Thursday, November 13th first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle collision on Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction with Granaway Lane.

It appears that a car being driven along Middle Road collided with a utility pole.

The driver, a 67 year old Warwick man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment as a precaution.

Three Arrested After Confirmed Firearm Incident in Mount Hill, Pembroke Area

Police responded to a report of a confirmed firearm incident that took place at 4:25pm in the Mount Hill, Pembroke area. It does not appear that anyone was injured and an investigation into this incident has commenced.

Three people were subsequently arrested in connection with this matter.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen persons acting suspiciously in the Mount Hill, Pembroke area.

Two Vehicle Collision in Paget

Around 7:55am on Wednesday, November 12th first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision on South Road in Paget, apparently between White Sands Road and Mission Road.

It appears that a car and a van collided while being driven in morning traffic along South Road. The van driver, a 47 year old Paget woman, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment as a precaution. She was later discharged.

Remembrance Day Shooting Incidents in Devonshire & Sandys Parishes

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard (Crime Division) & Acting Detective Chief Inspector Dave Greenidge (Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit) - The shooting incidents that took place yesterday on Remembrance Day in Devonshire and Sandys Parish caused serious injury to four people and could easily have injured or killed more.

The public is quite rightly outraged at the callous actions of the criminals involved in firing bullets into groups of innocent people, with reckless disregard for those who might be killed or injured.

Four Men Shot & Injured in Sandys Parish

Around 7:10pm on Tuesday November 11th, police and first responders attended a report of gunshots in the area of Somerset Cricket Club in Sandys.

Four men were injured and conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and their conditions at this juncture are unknown.

Marine Death of Dr. Neil Burnie

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 60 year old Dr. Neil Burnie of Smith's parish and extends condolences to his family and friends. Police and other first responders attended a report of a marine incident that took place today a few minutes after 11am in the waters off of Horseshoe Bay beach.

Details are sketchy, but it appears that Dr. Burnie ran into difficulty whilst scuba diving, resulting in Marine Police and Harbour Radio being notified.
